If you’re someone who’s a mad fan of Thai BLs, you’d probably be familiar with how this genre works. Thai BLs can be spicy, super sweet & cliched, and amazing — almost everything, in fact. However, sometimes the industry lacks a good storyline, doesn’t it?

Although having great storyline, each of the series contents its own flaws too. Some may have failed to execute the backstory properly, some may have overdone it with the plots twist or some may have failed to convey the exact feelings they were supposed to show to the audience. But, then again, one learns and does better from these little mistakes, isn’t it?

Here are the five top Thai BLs of 2024 with brilliant storyline that exceed the expectation of the fans this year.

My Stand-In (April – July)

Series, “My Stand-In”, adapted from the novel called “Professional Body Double” by Shui Qiang Cheng aired around this April and finished on July 12.

Would you like it if your identity remained only as someone’s replacement throughout your whole life? No, right? This dark-romance series follows the story of Joe, a stuntman works for an actor named Tong. Joe dies tragically in an accident on set, struggling with an identity crisis. He then wakes up in another man’s body, with the same name, and continues to live his life as the new Joe. Resuming his work as a stuntman again, he re-connects with his old lover Ming, who once just neglected him, seeing him only as Tong’s replacement.

Repentant Ming tries hard to link the dots and seek the truth hidden behind the new Joe’s facade, with the hope of apologizing for all the wrongs he once did to the past Joe.

4Minutes ( July – September)

“4Minutes”, a supernatural, mysterious BL, depicts the story of a business major university student, Great, who belongs from a super rich family, who one day, gains a supernatural power out of nowhere: the ability to see four minute into the future. Although this new gain power disturbs Great’s usual pace of life he gets a chance to alter the outcome of many future events by himself.

One day, Great, meets Thyme, a residential surgeon, for whom he starts to feel all bubbly inside, making him experience unknown emotions. However, the new feelings couldn’t get to acknowledge any sooner as many questions starts to appear, in front of Great making him feel confuse and vulnerable again and again.

A series filled with mystery, romance and plot twists, “4 Minutes” could be to your liking if you love to engage yourself in a futuristic themed story.

Century of Love (July – August)

Your another supernatural-themed drama “Century of Love”, is a perfect match for your taste if you’re someone who loves reincarnation or fated love stories. The drama, with overflowing chemistry, angst, backstory will not disappoint you for sure.

San, willing to go any extent to reunite with his lover, Wat, has been patiently waiting for Wat’s reincarnation for a century. However, soon the time limit granted to find his beloved is about to expire, resulting a tragic death ahead for San, if he fails to find his fated one.

Surprisingly, San’s beloved has already been reborn, but not as an women she once was; but as a joyful boy named Vee, whom San refused to acknowledge as his true one.

If you enjoy any intense, angsty storyline way too much, then this is one of the best BL out there that definitely needs to be checked out by you.

Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart (September – November)

“Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart”, a series packed with action, slow-burn, romance that definitely shouldn’t be missed at all, finished airing this November 25, 2024, waiting for you to binge-watch if you haven’t yet. Also, if you have, it’s time for you to tune in again.

Joke, a boy with a hidden identity, is not your average boy, whose daily routine only consist sleep, study, eat & repeat. Joke, is the holder of another secret identity, called Joker, an infamous thief who robs the filthy rich and redistributes the money to the people in need.

One day Joke meets Jack, a taekwondo aspirant, working hard just to survive and instantly a spark ignites between the two. But even before the pair could open up to each other, an unwanted incident drives the two individual apart for five whole years fueling the miscommunication.

Joke returns with the hope of clearing up the misunderstanding after years only to get shocked to see a completely different person who once used to be so innocent of a boy with a good heart.

Spare Me Your Mercy (November – December)

JJ Krissanapoom and Tor Thanapob starred series “Spare Me Your Mercy”, adapted from the novel called “Euthanasia” by widely known writer Sammon, talks about sensitive topic — Euthanasia, a term used to describe the process of willful death of terminally ill patient.

Captain Wasan arrives in his hometown in the hope of spending remaining days with his mother, who’s a last stage cancer patient. But upon arriving Wasan is met with the news of his mother passing prematurely. A few days after the incident Wasan discover another death in the village, just like his mother, a death of a premature terminally ill patient. What shocks Wasan more is the continuation of the same pattern death of patient in palliative care. Wasan’s suspicions only grows to find out all the patient being taken care by the same doctor, Dr. Kan, who was the same doctor of his mother as well.

Thus start Wasan’s journey to find out the real truth behind all the deaths of the terminally ill patients like his mother. But the process is not all smooth as it seems to be, Thiu aka Wasan starts to identify the internal change of feelings within him as he gets familiar with Dr. Kan with each passing day.
