Its almost the end the year, and a time to check what Japanese BLs have given to us throughout the whole year.
What makes Japanese BLs different from others are its aesthetics, although it does for other countries too. But you can’t just match the perfect blend of comedy-romance and seriousness well together than Japan, right? The country is known for its amazing screenings by adapting the manga series into live action while keeping all the flavor intact in it just as the reading.
Japan, this year, has produced over 15 BLs consistently, of which here are 7 that we think are top-notch and worthy of watching repeatedly.
I hear the Sunspot
One of the well liked Japanese BL of 2024, “I hear the Sunspot” started broadcasting around June this year and ended on September 11, with a great rating at its end.
Adapted from a manga series called Hidamari ga Kikoeru” by Yuki Fumino follows the story of Sugihara Kohei and Sagawa Taichi. Sugihara Kohei is often mistaken by people at campus due to his having hearing problems, thus he tries to maintain his distance from others. But the wall Kohei had created for so long starts to crumble when he’s met with Taichi, a boy exactly opposite of him, who’s attracted to the lunch boxes Kohei brings to college.

“Love Is Better the Second Time Around”, is a perfect mature themed Japanese BL series which follows the story of Miyata Akihiro, an editor of a publication named “Tokyo Business” gets assigned to convince the popular writer aka professor Iwanaga Takashi to write for his publication. But upon meeting, he realizes that this Iwanaga Takashi is that senior of his high school on whom he had a crush on, even dated each other for a short period until the latter suddenly disappeared.
The 6 episodes in total series, aired this year around March and ended on April 10.

“Takara’s Treasure”, a drama to truly fall in for, adapted from the manga called “Takara no Vidro” by Suzumaru Minta follows the story of Nakano Taishin who moved to Tokyo for college with the intention of finding that man who had comforted Taishin in his worst time.
Upon successfully finding the man, Taishin couldn’t just held all the excitement internally he had been keeping to himself, and went to show his gratitude towards the senior, but suddenly Taishin is met with indifference by the man himself.

20 year old university student Sakuraba Isumi always gets teased and mistaken as a teenager due to having a short stature and youthful appearance. One day while returning from college, drunk Isumi again gets mistaken as one by a police patrolling the area and gets saved from almost going to jail by showing his student ID.
Later, Isumi is again met with the same man at the convenience store where he works part-time, the man introduces himself to Isumi as Amasawa Kyosuke. Soon, Kyosuke becomes a regular at the convenience store and starts to ask for Isumi’s suggestion on what to eat for a midnight snack.
Seeing the unhealthy habit of Kyosuke, Isumi couldn’t help himself anymore from asking “Should I come and cook for you?”.
