Chinese BL ‘Deep In (2026)’ ends after running 12 episodes with a ‘Happy Ending’, but there’s a jumbo twist at the tail end!
After six weeks of straight running with 12 episodes, the Chinese BL, Deep In (2026) ended last month on Friday, July 31, 2026. The series carried a very refreshing concept of combining two stories in one series, which was a very new idea in the world of BL series. Not only was the concept fresh but the faces as well.
The series featured Ollie (Liu Tianyue), who’s been a part of Mnet’s popular idol survival show ‘Boys Planet (2023)’, along with Shu Yuan, a brand new face who has just started his acting journey with the drama, Deep In (2026).
The onscreen couple of the series has made such a visually divine pair that as soon the casting got revealed, the trailer of the series dropped, a huge number of fans jokingly accused the faces of the pair of being of AI. More than joking it was a way of fans praising the actors’ stricking visuals and its resemblance to nowadays flawless AI characters.
Deep In (2026) story synopsis
Deep In follows the story of Zhang Zhun, a boy who has been in the industry for long, has so far worked as a body-double and stunt double, is in desperate need of an actual role to accelerate his career to a positive turn. Zhun gets an opportunity to audition for a gay character role for a movie, which happens to star the ultimate star, Zhen Xin, a very popular actor in the industry, who goes by the title ‘The Best Actor’.
The filming is about to start, but there’s a condition, Zhen Xin and Zhang Zhun have to cohabit for a certain period in order to build up their chemistry before shooting starts. The actors start living under the same roof for the next one month to prepare themselves to become the actual Fang Chi and Gao Zhun.
Cohabitation starts, so does increases the closeness. And ultimately, at some point, it is too difficult to ascertain the fine line that there was at the very beginning between the pair and distinguish the real Zhang Zhun, Zhen Xin from Gao Zhun and Fang Chi, who are far too deep into their characters.

After their heated argument, Zhang Zhun and Zhen Xin agrees to break off their relationship. Next thing we see, Zhen Xin leaving the spot right away, where on the other hand, being alone in the room Zhang Zhun realises that there was no insincerity about Zhen Xin’s love for Zhang Zhun.
Even though the pair break off their relationship, the remaining shooting of the series still goes on as scheduled, and after shooting ends, eight months flew by. The two take time figuring out their feelings for each other, which are still very strong, if not more.
The beloveds finally appears face to face at the screening of their series, where Zhang Zhun, being unable to hold it all together any longer, confesses his feelings for Zhen Xin in front of everyone, by revealing the ring he has still kept to himself from their proposal night.

‘Am I late?’ Zhang Zhun asks Zhen Xin, not willing to wait any longer upon hearing the question from his lover, Zhen Xin runs towards Zhang Zhun, the couple shares a passionate kiss, and Zhin Xin replies ‘Not late, not late at all’. Isn’t it the most beautiful and heart-pleasing ending we have witnessed in CBL so far?

Though the majority of the reviews and feedback from the fans and critics were positive enough for the show, like more than enough truth to be told, there were several arguments over the plot’s side thread.
Like recent Chinese BLs, this series, Deep In, too was more towards the dark side of BL genre, which carried sub-plots like non-consensual materials, cheating arc, dark psychological issues and so on. Likewise, the series also has shown the vulnerability of the entertainment industry, how actors get pushed to the edge to deliver absolute mirrored acting and action such as their characters. The series continued on showing how deep it affects the actors personally and mentally in order to meet their commitments. And how the same industry questions the actors for letting them get affected by the actions that were demanded from them earlier.
