A fake-pretend lovers story, ‘The Missing Piece’ starts head-strong on its premieres with the first two episodes!
A new Psychological Chinese BL has just dropped in the town! The Missing Piece, a production of Baixiaoyu Studio premiered today, on September 7, 2026, with airing the first two episodes of the series on the official YouTube channel of the production company, BXY BL Dramas, and on streaming platforms such as GagaOOlala, Viki and Heavenly.
China, which is famous for creating dark psychological BLs through various mediums, such as web novels, manhua and series, has always excelled in creating toxic male leads, who are dangerously obsessed with their partner, the main characters.
This time too, we got another over possessive ML trying to own the main character just for themselves in the new Chinese BL, The Missing Piece.
A 15-episodes-long BL series, ‘The Missing Piece’ is an adaptation of the web novel of same name by author Kun Yi Wei Lou, tells the story of Shen Mo (played by Rao Ji Hao), the art school graduate student who happens to be bound in a fake relationship with the business tycoon, Ji Mingxuan (played by Hou Mingxuan).
Synopsis of The Missing Piece
Three years have passed since Shen Mo had lost everything of his; his ability to draw, his former lover, and a part of himself. Now Shen Mo works a simple desk job in a company run by one of the wealthiest families of the country, Ji family. Aside from being a nine-to-five worker, Shen Mo is a full time pretend lover of Mr. Ji, the heir of Ji family, who had saved Shen Mo three years ago.
When everything was at least going normal in Shen Mo’s life according to him, the news of his former lover, Zhou Yang, now the partner of Ji Mingxuan’s sister and Ji family’s would-be son-in-law churns up every wall that was built through years in Shen Mo’s world.
The Missing Piece Episode 1 and 2 Overview

New Chinese BL, ‘The Missing Piece’ premieres with the two strong introductory episodes, keeping the pace of story telling well maintained within the first two episodes, spanning 36 minutes each. The story which in theme is entirely towards dark and psychological melodrama, did a great job in the smooth execution of the premiered episodes, which highly indicates a promising start to cover the full story of the series well.
The beginning episodes showcased a strong tension between the main characters, well acted intimacy and the conflicts that are about to rise in the life of four, Shen Mo, Ji Mingxuan, Ji An’an and Zhou Yang.

Episode one opens one a bold, intimate scene between the main characters, Shen Mo and Ji Mingxuan, which shows their current relationship arrangement, a peek at the life of the contractual, fake lovers.
‘Zhou Yang is coming back tomorrow’, a sentence which sends shudders in Mo’s body as soon as it leaves Mingxuan’s mouth. A past which was away from his eyes till now is again to face Shen Mo, made him stunned by the news.
The next scene of the first episode shows Mingxuan asking Mo to get ready to receive An’an and Yang from the airport on their arrival to the country. The sister-brother duo An’an and Mingxuan share an endearing hug as soon as they arrive while a sudden tension arises as the eyes of the ‘ex-lovers’ meet one another. All four of them go to have lunch where Shen Mo feels it unbearable to be in a room with both Ji Mingxuan, his present and Zhou Yang, his past being present under the same roof together in front of him. Hence, Mo excuses himself to the restroom, where he gets followed by Mingxuan.
Mingxuan pulls off a tricky move for Zhou Yang to sense the intimacy between his former lover and would-be brother-in-law. As a result, it punished the confused Mo even more. Tired of everything, Mo collapses on the floor and sits there for a while to recollect his composure after the incident.

Shen Mo, who is the center of gossip of his co-workers, faces continuous curious glances at work, feels nothing but extremely exhausting about everything that is happening around him. He meets with Zhou Yang on his way to get a breath of fresh air, who forces Mo to go with him for dinner.
Shen Mo and Zhou Yang go under a deep conversation about their past, where Zhou Yang questions Mo of his reason behind their abrupt breakup initiated by Mo. Zhou Yang even throws harsh words directed at Shen Mo, who recalls the dark past of him being brutally tortured by the sent goons from Zhou Yang’s family three years back, which led him to lose the ability to draw, as his hand faced serious injuries.
Mo gets back at home, where he meets with Mingxuan, who rarely comes back home at night, sitting in their dimly-lit living room. Mo gets left out the next scene by Mingxuan after getting confronted by the man for meeting with Zhou Yang, when the two were actually supposed to go for dinner that day.
In the episode two we see more about the daily life of Shen Mo and Ming Xuan after the arrival of An’an and Zhou Yang, where in one scene Mo is seen being tagged along An’an to shopping for Zhou Yang’s birthday which is around the corner, while in next scene we see Mo criticizes himself for not being able play the ideal lover act for Mingxuan who tangles up in dating rumours every other day with various individuals.
The three highlights which stand out the most in episode two were, Mo and An’an meeting with Mingxuan at the restaurant accompanied by someone else beside him, which does nothing but fuels the insecurity of Mo more.
The second scene is when Zhou Yang visits Shen Mo to propose to him to run away far with himself. And, last but not the least, the third highlight scene of episode two is where Mo takes care of sick Mingxuan in an actual couple-like manner attentively, which shows how deeply Mo cares and feels about Mingxuan.
The fake lovers, dark-romance series, The Missing Piece, streaming on BXY BL Dramas (YouTube), GagaOOlala, Rakuten Viki and Heavenly every Saturday and Sunday at 19:00 PM (GMT+8), have aired the first two episodes of it so far out of a set of total 15 episodes today, on Monday, September 7, 2026.
